Chamber welcomes approval of next phase for City Centre Improvement Scheme

Chichester Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI) has today voiced its strong support following West Sussex County Council’s approval of the next phase of the Chichester City Centre Improvement Scheme.

The project, which focuses on enhancing the public realm and pedestrian experience within the city’s historic core, is viewed by the Chamber as a vital catalyst for economic revitalisation and long-term commercial sustainability.

Paul Rolfe, Chair of the Chichester Chamber of Commerce, commented:

“We are delighted to see West Sussex County Council move forward with this next phase of the City Centre Improvement Scheme. For our local economy to thrive, Chichester must be a place where people want to relax, shop, and do business. By investing in the quality of our streets and public spaces, we are not just improving the aesthetic of our city but actively supporting our members—from independent retailers to professional services—by increasing footfall and accessibility.

Chichester is a historic jewel, but it must also function as a modern, vibrant economic hub. These improvements represent a significant commitment to the city’s future. We look forward to working closely with the County Council and our local partners to ensure that the implementation phase considers the needs of the business community and helps secure Chichester’s position as a premier destination in the Southeast.”

The scheme aims to create a more attractive environment through improved paving, better lighting, and enhanced pedestrian priority areas, particularly around key gateways to the city. These changes are expected to encourage a stronger “evening economy” and provide a more welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors.

Chichester Chamber of Commerce remains committed to representing the interests of local businesses throughout the duration of the works, ensuring that the voice of the business community is heard as the city evolves.
